Office Lens

Do you need a quick and easy way to scan images of documents, business cards, receipts, sticky notes, whiteboard notes, etc. to access or use later? Well, look no further than your purse or pocket. Yes, that’s right. With the new{ish} Office Lens app for Windows, iOS, and Android, your smartphone or tablet is the answer.

This video demonstrates Office Lens with an iPhone, but it works the same across all devices.

The set-up process is easy …

  1. Install Office Lens, run it and give it permission to access your camera.
  2. Choose one of the available document types – Business Card, Photo, Document, Whiteboard, then point and click.
  3. Office Lens will attempt to straighten, crop, and frame the image, but you can click the Crop icon to work on it, if desired.
  4. Click Done and then choose a location to export your scanned image. You can scan to OneNote, OneDrive, OneDrive for Business or more.

Office Everywhere, For Everyone

Great news! Microsoft released Office iOS apps several months ago, but it required a paid subscription of Office 365 to have much functionality at all.

Last week, Microsoft announced that those of us who don’t have that paid O365 subscription can now view AND EDIT Office content on our iPhones and iPads. If you have an Android device, don’t worry – you can sign up here for the Android PreviewOffice

This is HUGE,y’all!

If you already downloaded the free Office apps to your iDevices, just update them. If you haven’t downloaded them yet, you can access them in the App Store or with the following links.
